2013 Avinyo Petillant Blanc Vi d'Agulla
Josh Raynolds, IWC (Vinous), Sept/Oct 2014

($16) (80% muscat a petits grains and 20% macabeu; 10.5% alcohol): Bright, green-tinged straw. Lively lime zest, melon, white peach and jasmine on the nose, with a hint of white pepper in the background. Juicy and focused on the palate, displaying a refreshingly dry edge to its abundant pit and citrus fruit flavors. Clean, racy and tight on the finish, with the peach and floral notes repeating. This is absurdly easy to drink; it reminded me a lot of a fizzy Txakoli but with a bit more heft and breadth. A bottle per guest should suffice for a quick lunch, or even breakfast; it would be fantastic with an asparagus and Manchego omelet or tortilla.

NV Avinyo Brut Rosat Reserva Cava ($25)

International Wine Cellar, Nov. 2011 - Josh Raynolds
(100% pinot noir; Lot 11034):  Light orange-pink.  A complex bouquet evokes raspberry, blood orange and licorice, plus a touch of dried rose.  In a serious, dry style, displaying very good intensity to its sappy red fruit flavors.  Picks up a refreshingly bitter note of cherry pit on the finish, which clings with very good tenacity and focus.  This very wine-like Cava should would work well with richer foods.
