The Majesty of Galicia: New Releases from the 2007 VintageThe new releases from Galicia's 2007 vintage paint the perfect picture of this beautiful part of Spain. Just the smell of the 2007 Rebisaca from Do Ferreiro can conjure images of the Galician coast or a plate of fresh seafood.
Galicia isn't just about the coast and seafood though: nestled in the mountains is a region known as Valdeorras. Over 2000 years ago the Romans settled here and planted a grape known as Godello. The 2007 A Coroa is a snapshot of this ancient grape with the herbaceous minerals imparted by the slate and clay soils of this land.
All too often the red wines of Galicia are overlooked. The terraced vineyards where D. Ventura grows Mencía is a sight to behold. Their Viña Caneiro 2007 embodies the terruño of Ribeira Sacra with its hillsides that overlook the Sil River, warmed by the sun and then cooled by the crisp air carried along on the river.
Now's the time to bring that picture to life with a glass of your favorite wine from this amazing corner of Spain. Take your pick: Do Ferreiro, A Coroa or D. Ventura; whichever one is your picture of Galicia. Also New...2009 Cocktail Contest: SherryOur 2009 Cocktail Contest is underway.
